I am under the impression that an engagement ring is the ring that supposed to be the “Show-Off” ring.. **bling-bling!!** and the wedding ring is the pretty band you keep on for the rest of ur life. What did your rings look like?
What are the traditional rules for engagement/wedding rings?

Sounds about right. I got my wife the big *bling-bling* solitaire for the engagement. Then, we shopped for some nice wedding rings together.
Hers is a cathedral gold & diamond band. Mine is a gold band with about 1 ct. of diamonds.
You are correct, but you can buy beautiful sets or ring guards where the wedding band has diamonds all around it like an anniversary band. These are absolutly gorgeous and sets off the engagment ring even more.
I have a small 1/10 carat diamond ring and a small wedding band. Traditionally you are supposed to wear the band closetest to your heart and you engagement ring on top of that. That’s how i do it.
Mine are actually mismatched. My wedding band is a simple yellow gold band that belonged to my husband’s father, who passed away when my husband was 9 yo. So I wear it in honor of my deceased FIL’s memory.
My engagement ring was of my own choosing and is non-traditional. And while I can wear it with the wedding band (the E-ring is white gold), I usually wear it on my right hand. It has a 1K black sapphire and is channel-set with diamonds along the band.
So to answer your question, yes you’re assumptions are correct; however, if you want to be non-traditional, by all means! We ARE all different after all!

I agree that the engagement ring is the traditional “Show-Off” ring but the wedding band can be just as pretty and elaborate. Mine is a matching set with both the engagement band and the wedding band set with diamonds and filigree all the way around. There’s no rule that says the wedding band has to be a plain gold band. The only difference between my rings is the diamond on the engagement band.
The modern trend is to get a wedding band that’s just as gorgeous as the engagment band just in case you have to take your engagement ring off (e.g. gardening, at the gym, moving, etc.) but don’t want to take the entire set off.
I hope this helps!
My engagement ring has a 1 carat sapphire with diamonds down the side of the ring. It’s super detailed, with three different sizes of diamonds set in an antique style. There’s also some etching on the white white that brings it all together. In fact, I just discovered some more diamonds that I didn’t see before (there on the other sides of the ring, facing my ring finger, if that makes sense).
So, I plan on having my wedding ring a simple white gold band.
I have a modest stone, flanked by two shoulder stones, in 14k yellow gold. Wedding band had three of the smaller stones. Husband truly chose well! One of the things I like best is the finish of the band, it’s kind of flat/smooth – ok, too hard to describe, but it’s different.
Lots of people wear both rings after they get married, but I know sometimes I like to just wear my wedding band.
