How many wedding rings are there?

I thought you get one ring when you are proposed to and use that same ring in the ceremoney. Do you have an “engagement” ring and get another different ring as a “wedding” ring?

Sometimes when an engagment ring is purchased it comes as a wedding set…you have the diamond solitare as the engagement ring and then a wrap or band as the wedding ring…mine was purchased as just an engagment ring…i bought a diamond band to go with it when i wear my engagment ring cuz i plan on using my Aunt’s wedding ring for the wedding.

    The Engagement Ring:
The traditional way is that when you are engaged the man gives you an engagement ring. This ring is usually a diamond solitaire that the groom pays for. This is actually a relatively new custom invented by DeBeers to sell diamonds. The groom does not get a ring when you are engaged.

    The Wedding Ring
During the wedding ceremony, the man and women exchange “wedding rings”. These are simple gold bands. The bride gets one and the husband gets one also. This is a much older custom then the engagement ring. The groom doesn’t always pay for these, you may split the cost or have the father of the bride pay along with other wedding expenses.

Thus, when all is said and done the wife ends up with two rings (a diamond solitaire engagement ring and a gold wedding ring) and the husband ends up with one (a simple gold band wedding ring)

    Three.

    1. The engagement ring given to the woman at the time of the proposal.
2 & 3. The wedding bands exchanged by the couple during the ceremony.

The woman then typically wears her engagement ring and wedding band as a set.

Orginally there was one ring way back when, that was the wedding band you recieved at the alter. But now a days there is normally two rings. An engagement ring you wear while you are engaged or soon to be married, to be wore during the time you are still dating and planning to marry. An then the wedding ring you get on the wedding day. Also you can recieve a promise ring from him/her earlier dating stage to say you intend on marrying him/her.

You don’t have to, my friend had a couple of little diamonds added to her engagement ring (just to make it special) and used it for her wedding ring because she didn’t want two rings. Some people get very tied up in what is traditional or tacky or whatever, but what it comes down to is what you want.
