I’m the type of guy who likes to surprise my girlfriend. I know that women are very intuitive when it comes to “ring” shopping, so that if I was to take my gal shopping for one, from that moment on she would be expecting a proposal, thus totally eliminating the surprise element. I do know what kind of diamond she likes, and the type of ring she likes (white gold), but I realize that there are going to be a lot of different styles to pick from. Is it wise for me to shop for one on my own, thus making the proposal an absolute surprise, but risking not getting her a ring that she has in mind? Or take her window shopping one weekend to get a feel for what she likes?
She has been married before, and her ex-husband got her ring totally wrong (wrong diamond/metal type), and even though it wasn’t what she hoped for, she loved it just the same. I want this time to be perfect for her, but again, the element of total surprise when it comes to the proposal feels like a priority for me 
Ladies, do you like to shop ahead of time, knowing that you’ll be proposed to soon?
