Have a filigree style wedding band?

November 7th, 2011

I have a vintage filigree engagement ring and I am looking for a band to match. It doesn’t have to be vintage, but I would prefer it to be filigree and maybe have a slight curve to fit snuggly against my ring. If you have one for sale or know of a way to find one please help! I am not looking to spend a fortune but i would like good quality. My engagement ring is white gold. Here is a link to a ring that looks exactly like mine only it is platinum.

Opinion on channel set wedding bands?

October 25th, 2011

I have large fingers, size 8.5. The E-ring is a solitaire in platinum 2.5mm, its an emerald shape and very close to a 1ct size. So I am looking at a channel set band and there are two.

The first one is asschers, there are 12 and the tctw is .61 so 5 points each, I believe that is 2mm in size. The band is 3.3mm wide, 2mm height. Will this go far enough around my finger? This band is 300 more than the following.

9 channel set baguettes .39ct, band is 2.6mm wide and ht is 1.6, both bands from facets. The baguette I believe would be 4.3 points each?

I know that asschers are more expensive than the baguettes, and with the .21 ct size difference it seems like the asscher is the better deal for 300 more.

Is this enough carat wt? I don’t want it to overpower the E-ring, but I don’t want it puny either.

I have asked on pricescope but got no response.

Opinions please, which is better? And is it enough carat wt?
They do match the color and clarity E-F/VVS1-2-VS1-2. That is the problem stores do not carry asschers, or baguettes, only princess’s and rounds in a channel setting. I have not found a princess channel set that has that number of stones or that carat wt.

What do you think about married men & women who don’t wear their wedding rings?

October 22nd, 2011

So I know we’ve all heard that it’s bad luck to ever take off your wedding ring and all that jazz, but superstitions aside, what do you think about married people who either don’t wear a ring ever, or take it off occasionally?

For example: I am a married woman, and my ring is a three stone engagement ring soddered inside an enhancer/jacket. The result is that the ring fits more snugly than if it was kept as two separate pieces. My hands, like mose people’s, swell slightly in the summer, and/or if I am bloated for whatever reason. As a result, I have been taking my ring off for short periods of time, because the feeling woyld range from discomfort to nearly cutting off my circulation. I try to put it back on if I am leaving the house, but sometimes my hands are so swollen I can’t get it over my knuckle. I also sometimes take it off if I am cleaning, putting on lotion, or doing something else that might gunk up the ring, because I have a slight case of OCD.

Example two: my husband is a mechanic and takes his ring off at work sometimes. He was married previously and his ex-wife never let him take his ring off. He was working in construction and dropped something heavy on his hand. His ring was crushed into his hand (it was a flimsy white gold band — from Walmart) and it was extremely painful for hkm to get it off, but he had to so it didn’t cut off his circulation and so he could get his finger treated. As a result of this, we were very particular when picking out his wedding band, and got a wider band made out of tungsten, but some jobs, he will still remove his ring so it doesn’t get damaged or hurt him.

Neither of us have a problem with the other removing their ring. We feel that the circumstances are understandable, and that the ring might be a symbol of our marriage, but the marriage itself is the love and commitment between us. Does anyone else feel this way? I mean, it’s not as though we only remove our rings when we go out to bars or clubs, or because we are ashamed of being married. My parents both take their rings off at night or when working with their hands and have been happily married for thirty years this Oct., so I definitely don’t believe any superstitions! What do you think when you hear of people removing their rings?

BQ: When ‘checking out’ a member of the opposite sex, do you take the time to look for a ring on his/her finger?
Oops, I meant to mention this above:

I’m not, like, stressing about this or anything, I was just mildly curious about what the general opinion is ;-D
Oi, so many edits, lol!

In reference to the third post: I know I don’t check out someone’s finger to see if they’re married. If an attractive man passes by, I might notice that he is attractive, but that’s about it. My husband is free to look at whatever woman he pleases (LOOK, not touch, haha), but he is that guy who is more likely to check out a pretty girl’s cool car than the pretty girl herself. This marriage was a long time coming (eight years of ‘carrying the torch’, so to speak), so there’s no way we’re letting anyone come between us.

I guess I just asked to see if a ring is something people notice. I am more likely to notice a woman wearing a ring than a man, because, well, I am a woman and interested in unique jewelry!

Where can I find a man’s wedding band like this? picture?

October 17th, 2011

My fiance wants his wedding band to have turtles on it. I’m having a hard time finding one in stores and online. He would love it to be white gold. The ring in the link below would be great. But it’s only $20, therefor I’m sure it won’t last a lifetime. All the turtle band rings I see are so cheap. THEN- I found a nice one for $3 thousand dollars! I can’t afford that! $100-$500 price range would be nice.

ANYONE KNOW HOW I CAN FIND ONE? thanks

Why was Obama not wearing his wedding ring?

October 15th, 2011

In a press conference last week Obama was not wearing his wedding ring nor was he wearing his watch.

When noticed, his staff said his ring was out for repairs. But what kind of repair does a plan gold band need?? No reason was given for the missing watch.

So it’s just a coincidence that Muslims are forbidden from wearing jewelry during the month of Ramadan? Can’t possibly be that, because although he hasn’t gone to a Christian church service since entering the White House, we know he’s a committed Christian “cause he said so during the campaign!” ………..And I’ve got a bridge to nowhere to sell you also.

This is the same president that spent the Christmas holidays in Hawaii to avoid religious obligations as PRESIDENT at the White House. His children do not receive Christmas presents.

Let’s just face the facts and quit trying to tell the truth, we have a muslim for president in the White House, and he has no knowledge of American history.

Hey guys, we’re not paying attention, Muslims will soon rule the world.
Strange, out of 17 answers only one mentioned the missing watch, and they wasn’t a liberal. Seems like the liberals were clamoring so hard to cover up the truth about the missing ring they completely forgot about the missing watch. It is so easy to catch liberals, it really is not even fun anymore.

What kind of ring to get my fiance for our wedding day?

October 14th, 2011

I was under the assumption that I would have gotten him a white gold band that looked good with my set. I have been online looking at rings before going into the store, and the majority of the rings are triton tungsten and titanium. A lot of them are nice, but since it’s not gold like my set, I kind of feel cheap, like I got this extravigant white gold set and he gets this cheap band (even though they really aren’t that cheap).
Is it normal for guys to get triton tungsten and titanium wedding bands? That’s what all the best looking seem to be made of.
Very good idea about taking him to pick out his own…I agree, wouldn’t want him to not like his ring.
It’s not as much wondering if it would be cheap of me to get him one, but more wondering when the switch from gold to titanium and tungsten was? I had never noticed it before.

Frugal wedding tips- can you cut this budget for me?

October 11th, 2011

Okaaay!
I have the following left to pay for for the wedding that is September 6th.

DJ- $200
Minister-$200
Marriage license- $100
Bridal party gifts (4 of them) $150
candy buffet (instead of favours) $150
groomsmen golfing morning of wedding- $100
wedding bands- $300
clothing for our kids to wear to wedding- $125
rehersal dinner night before for close family/friends- $250
Hair/makeup- $100
thank you cards for after wedding & shower- $40
Rest of the catering bill- $400 (parents are paying other $3000)

I am thinking about skipping getting my hair & makeup done and doing it myself. I am buying basic blank cards from a craft store and stamping my own thank you cards. We have a contract with the DJ otherwise we would just use a laptop for music… but we can’t now.
We’re not handing out favours, but having a candy buffet. Buying candy in bulk, putting it in bowls and stamping white paper bags with our wedding colours and design.
how can I cut down on bridal party gift costs? I paid for their dresses. I am really trying to keep their gifts at around $100, not the budgeted $150… was thinking about framing a nice picture of me with each of the girls and giving them as gifts, along with a mini spa kit (bath bombs, lotions, scrubs, etc).
I just bought the dress for my daughter on clearance for $19- now my son needs khakis, a white golf shirt, and both kids need shoes.
Was thinking about how to spend less on the rings- a brushed white gold/titanium/silver band for hubby, and a white gold band for myself. Where is the cheapest we can get them? Online is fine, as long as they will arrive on time.
I also need to buy the following–

tea lights
spool of raffia
white paper bags
placecards & bulletin board for place cards
mini plant pots with greenery in them
tulle
green and chocolate brown ribbon
some fake green button mums or something similar
a big wreath form to make a wreath with the flowers

any ways i can cut down these costs even more? I only have like $2000 TOPS for the rest of this! And what is the ettiquette on tipping the caterer/minister/dj?

Thanks!

Do you think this wedding band matches enough with my engagement ring?

October 11th, 2011

My engagement ring was custom made, but with the price of platinum up right now, we decided to buy one already made instead of getting band custom made, too.

What do you think?

Thanks for answers so far. The edgework is a little different around diamonds and on the side of band. Probably noone will notice but me!
Lydia-I actually tried on one like that. It was less flush, believe it or not.

Which wedding band would you choose and why?

October 7th, 2011

Hi,
Our wedding is in a month (exactly, dec 6th wooo), anyway, my fiance can’t decide which wedding band he likes better and neither can I. We’ve narrowed it down to these 2 choices.
Please briefly explain which one you like better and why. It would be greatly appreciated.
ps. no comments about how the rings are cheap LOL… :)

Ring no. 1:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=260298641233

Ring no. 2 :

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=360047939710

Basically we feel ring no. 1 is classic, the look will stand the test of time, but is perhaps a tad plain. We like the little pattern on ring no.2, but are unsure of how it will look in say 30 years… plus my fiance slightly prefers white gold, so ring no. 1 has a bit more white gold on it, … but he still can’t decide lol
thanks!

Thanks for the feedback everyone, several of you made some very valid points… so I think we’re going to go with ring no. 1 but we’ll decide for sure a little later tonight lol.

AD Ford while your comment didn’t answer my question, but we’re all entitled to our opinions… Seeing as this ebay seller has been in business on ebay for over 10 years and has 99.6% positive feedback with over 11000 transactions, we’re wiling to take a chance on this ring.. and I guess worse case if it fails we’re only out 200$ and we’ll buy a new ring… I am not someone who feels the need to absolutely buy a ring from a brick and mortar store. I did check a few stores though before going online. Lol come to think of it your answer sounds like something my mom would say, which is why I turned to yahoo answers for opinions and not to my family LOL..
Plus I thank everyone for telling it like it is… For example, maybe ring no.2 does look a little feminine, and I bet none of my friends or family would have told me that, so I’m glad to have heard it though.
Thanks!

tkahrs12122 definitely did NOT answer my question. Why would anybody post anything on yahoo answers if they did not want the opinions of strangers.
Sometimes that’s exactly what you need, someone with an outside perspective to shed new light on your scenario. pff
