Is a moissanite a nice stone? Can it pass for a diamond?

We are shopping around for my engagement ring and the only thing in our price range is a 1/5 carat solitaire diamond.
I am thinking that i should get a different stone, in a real gold setting and just upgrade later.
Has anyone had any experience with moissanite? I want it to look and sparkle like a diamond so it can match my diamond wedding band (passed down from family)
What about white sapphire? I dont like the idea of cubic because i heard they fog and have no brillance.

Also, my wedding band is in platinum. I would like to get my engagement ring in white gold, will there be a difference in color between 14k gold and platinum? what about 18k gold?
Perse, when you say “the extra fire and brilliance will be the first thing to give moissanite away” do you mean that moissanite has more fire and brillance than a real diamond?

Does my wedding stone have to be a diamond?

I know traditionally wedding rings have diamonds in them but I really tend to not like diamonds much, I find them too plain, and am really attracted to sapphires. So could my wedding ring have a sapphire as the main stone with diamond accents instead of just a diamond or would that be too ‘untraditional’?
I really want this (or this kind of) ring. What do you think of it? Do you think it would be too small for a wedding ring?

Is it okay to have a red stone for an engagement ring, & to use the same ring for the engagement and wedding?

I hate diamonds- everyone uses them, and I just don’t like them, because they’re boring. I’ve always wanted just one simple garnet set in silver or white gold rather than a fancy multiple diamond one set in yellow gold like everyone else has. Would what I want be tacky or look cheap?

Also, is it okay to use the same ring for both the engagement and the wedding? I just don’t see the point of buying an expensive ring I would wear maybe a year before I got married and put on a different expensive new ring, but I would like a ring with a stone. And how would that work for the wedding if I was to do it?

Not that I’m getting married anytime soon- these are just the random thoughts of a girl, lol.

right now she has an princess engagement ring so id like something to compliment this i think the 5 stone may over power it since its bigger than the engagement ring let me know thanks
actually we did go into the jewerly store and she showed me what she liked she likes the pauve set ,channel set kind of elegant not to glitzy than the 5 stone or eternity , i know what my fiance wants im just asking other woman out here on yahoo would you prefer a channel set or 5 stone?
