I don’t understand the different purposes or meanings behind the engagement ring vs. the wedding band. Do I really need both? We’re shopping for engagement rings now. I found one I like and it’s not too flashy: I want to wear THAT for the rest of my life. Can I just use it for an engagement ring then have him put it back on my finger during the ceremony? Or am I really supposed to have another seperate wedding band?

What are the rules for engagement rings vs. wedding bands?
February 12th, 2011What are the “rules” or traditions for a guy’s wedding ring?
December 29th, 2010To start, I’m a guy (hence I don’t know the answer to this question). My grandfather has a real basic, gold ring that was his father’s (and I believe a generation beyond that as well). Now, I’m not expecting it any time soon, but when I get married is it acceptable to want to use this ring as my wedding ring? I know ideally they should at least be the same material, but I think it’d be a cool family thing to use, even though traditional gold is not in style right now. If my fiance/wife was to use a white gold or platinum colored ring, would it be all that bad to use the gold one?
I’m 22 now, and don’t expect to need it right now, but my grandpa offered it to me some years ago (I was 16 or 17) but we suggested he wait until I was older and could appreciate it more.
Is it bad taste or “against the rules” to have your wedding rings be different colors?
December 24th, 2010I bought a guest book and pen holder with fake white gold rings on it, cause we planned to both have white gold rings. Now he tells me he would actually like a yellow gold ring… My engagement ring is white gold- so I have to have white gold band. Is it going to look bad, or is it against the rules of getting married to have two different colored rings? and if we do- will it look bad with the guest book i got- or will no one notice?

What are the traditional rules for engagement/wedding rings?
September 5th, 2010I am under the impression that an engagement ring is the ring that supposed to be the “Show-Off” ring.. **bling-bling!!** and the wedding ring is the pretty band you keep on for the rest of ur life. What did your rings look like?
What are the rules for wedding rings for non-religious couples?
November 22nd, 2009My girlfriend and I are not religious, but like the idea of having a gold and silver (for the bride) set of wedding rings, like the Catholics.
Is this appropriate to do ?
In general, can we just get the rings that we like, or is there a set of guidelines that we should follow ?
