November 21st, 2011Setting a diamond in an engagement ring?
November 20th, 2011Well my boyfriend and I have been talking for some time about getting engaged and how much we think he should spend on a ring. We are both in our second year of college, me full time and him part time and we both also work, me part time and him full time. We have been together for almost 3 years and have been good friends since we were in the sixth grade.
We recently moved intogether at my parents house, they have a little one bedroom apartment type set up in the basement so we can save money for a house and a small wedding.
I want a ring that is 14K white gold and we found a engagement ring setting that is on clearance online for $289.00 and has 1/3carat diamond sidestones and can hold a solitare between 3/4 and 1 carat.
I (we) personally don’t want to shell out a bunch of money for a diamond right now so is it possible to buy a loose diamond simulate and have it set in the setting. Also where could I have it done?
I found a place online called diamond nexus lab that cells loose man made diamonds and a .76 carat would cost $75 and comes with a lifetime warrenty if anything is wrong with the stone. ( I asked and they can’t set the stone)
I figured if we did this down the line if we wanted to we could upgrade to a real diamond but right now it is more praticle to save money for a house verses spending money on a big engagment ring.
What does everyone think.
Thanks
Heather
This diamond ring doesn’t shine for me anymore…so how do I get rid of it?
November 19th, 2011I have a wedding ring that means nothing to me anymore. It makes me feel bad to even see it so I am willing to sell it, but want to get as much as possible for it, and have no idea how to do it.
The center stone is a round cut “hearts and arrows”, and is described as “near flawless” and is .74 Ct in size. There are two round cut side stones described as “flawless,” each .25 Ct in size. There are also six channel set stones on either side, all smaller. It is set in 14K white gold.
I have the official appraisal papers, but they are put away for safekeeping and aren’t right at hand this minute. I do know, however, that the clarity rating was high, and that the total value when it was purchased 4 1/2 years ago was just under $5000.
I basically want to know what I should expect to hear from a jeweler when I approach them about buying the ring. Is that the best way to do it? I have never sold my jewelry before. Any recommendations on what to say? I know to bring the papers with, and I thought the best place to start would be with the jeweler it was purchased from.
Thanks for the expertise.
You call me pathetic for divorcing an alcoholic, physically abusive cheater? Go ahead. I have lived through worse. This ring is going to help me move on – emotionally and financially. Don’t be so quick to judge.
Do you like this Anniversary ring?

My husband never got me an engagement nor a wedding band and has promised to get me a ring. He told me to pick it out. Well, what do you guys think? It’s 18KGold and Platinum. I am really not a fan of things that look Silver or Platinum for that matter, but this ring style i couldn’t resist. What is your opinion?
Where should I sell my ring?
November 18th, 2011I got a bridal set about a year ago. They are over 1 carat and were originally about $4,000, but my boyfriend and I got them on sale for under $2,000. I want the engagement ring, but the wedding band does not fit my finger and I don’t really want to get it fixed. I will get a new wedding ring later. We thought about selling it, but where should I sell it at to get more money. It is white gold with twelve diamonds on it. We could use the extra money, but I am nervous about who will give me a good deal and who will not.
Also I have a lifetime protection plan, if I sell one of my rings, will my plan keep going? I got my rings at Zales, if that helps.
Why would it be a fraud if I sell one of my rings. They are mine and paid for. I just want the protection plan for my engagment ring.

diamond ring from dubai – fda inscription?
November 14th, 2011My sister’s engagement (and wedding) ring was bought from a street vendor in Dubai. Her (new) husband told her that it was 18karat white gold and that the diamonds were all top quality. I don’t know if he has a certificate of authenticity or anything and I’ve wondered if it was actually as good as he says it is. My brother recently pointed out to me that there is an inscription in my ring that tells me it is 14k but there is none in my sister’s ring. He says that the inscription instead is something like “fda” which he believes to be the symbol for silver. does anyone know anything about that?
