We know that diamond is forever. In metals it is said that platinum is forever. It is equivalent of diamonds. It is not only the hardest metal of all the available metals but it is also the rarest metal and most durable metal. It is precious because of its most extraordinary features. It is how much durable and strong can be imagined by the very fact that it loses virtually no metal when someone scratch it. It weighs 60 percent more than 14 karat gold. A six-inch cube of platinum weighs almost 165 pounds. Now you can understand how much durable and weighty this metal is.

As it is strong that is why when it is used for jewelry platinum is always alloyed with a second metal only to lend the second metal extra strength and high polish. To make it soft and flexible it is done. High polished feature can be hold by adding this second metal with this metal. It also helps the platinum to resist the scratching. What is considered to be pure platinum actually contains no more than 5 percent alloy, and is often marked ??.95 Plat?? inside the band. Platinum with 10 percent allow can also be purchased, and may be marked as ?.90 Plat? or similar. So by the mixture of another alloy platinum can be made suitable for making jewelry like wedding ring. For making wedding ring or any kind of ring is most common and usual use of platinum. But it can be used for making any kind of jewelry like necklace, armlets, and ear rings and so on.

There are lots of other reasons for which it is the favorite and most preferable metal. It is most ideal because it is with out any kind of irritation or skin allergy. Anyone with sensitive skin can wear this without any worry because it is most commonly alloyed with iridium or ruthenium, both of which are precious metals in the platinum metal group. Platinum only very rarely causes an allergic reaction; however, to be safe, always consult a physician.

For both men and women platinum wedding ring looks beautiful. Its intricate finishing and carving of body looks good when you wear this in your finger. Its silver white body feature and uncommon look can steal everyone?s attention towards you. It is not called the most precious metal jokingly. Another reason that men?s platinum wedding rings have become so popular is that the metal never tarnishes. Its intense luster will remain intact over the years, despite everyday wear. Further, it is not vulnerable to problems like stress corrosion or cracking.

Just like diamonds, platinum is a very rare material. If all the platinum ever mined were compiled, it would only produce a cube 17 feet on each side ? less than 5,000 cubic feet. In addition, it takes up to 10 tons of ore to produce one ounce of platinum, which is more than twice as much ore that is typically needed for one ounce of gold.
