I just got engaged & I need help finding a mens diamond platinum ring. I want it have at least 1 Carat (princess cut preferably), and I want the price to be under $2000. The best deals I have found have been online, but I am a little skeptical. Has anyone bought a wedding band online? Also I live in the Houston, TX area so if anyone has a jewler they can refer me to that would be great.

platinum over sterling silver bridal set ?

March 10th, 2011

I outgrew my wedding rings and am also broke. I was looking at some cheap sets and came across a page called palmbeachforeverfashonablejewlery. The metal type is platinum over sterling silver. What does this mean? Is sterling silver better not under platinum?. How can I tell if it’ll turn my finger green? What is the best way to maintain this metal? Here is a link to the rings in question. Any advice helps.

The band itself actually snapped in two pieces. My husband bough it for me 7 years ago when I was 16. I’d like to put the engagement ring up for safe keeping rather than having it resized.

Choosing The Perfect Engagement Ring

March 1st, 2011

The commitment to get married to a lady is generally expressed, by placing a ring on her 4th finger. This custom might have began with the Egyptians. These people believed a special vein or nerve ran from your finger to the heart. That’s quite an enchanting sentiment if you think about it.

Do platinum and Tungsten work well together in a ring?

February 26th, 2011

I have been looking online at Men’s wedding bands. I’m interested in something Made of Tungsten, but with platinum included.

It appears online that there are several choices available, but every jewelry store (I’ve visited more than 10 now) tell me that the metals don’t work well together and thus are not used together in jewelry.

Anyone have any clear answers and a good source?

Platinum: Ideal For Engagement Rings

February 7th, 2011

Platinum remains the metal of choice for wedding rings this year. Platinum has been growing in popularity over the last 10 years. It now has become the standard option for wedding rings, diamonds are definitely the conventional stone and also platinum has proved to be the best metal for setting diamonds.

Platinum is 95% pure it possesses a naturally white lustre that helps to reflect the true radiance of diamonds. Platinum does not fade or tarnish, but keeps its pure white colouring for life. The rarer something is, the much more valuable it is; platinum is 30% more scarce than gold. If all of the platinum ever mined were poured in to an Olympic swimming pool it would be scarcely deep enough to cover your ankles. In contrast, the world’s gold would fill much more than 3 times.

The density of platinum causes it to be a lot more durable than other jewelry metals. It does not alter shape or wear away so precious stones are held firmly and securely. That’s why almost every single famous gemstone, from the star of Africa to the Hope Diamond, is set in platinum. The design of your wedding ring is a very personal choice but you’ll find 3 general points to think about. The diamond makes up the highest part of the ring price. The size, colour, clarity and also cut of the diamond will directly affect the cost and value of the ring.

Setting holds the stone(s) and provides the design that gives each ring its own distinctive style. Hallmark identifies the type and purity of the metal used in the setting. All engagement rings bought in Ireland ought to be stamped with this information.

What’s the big difference between Platinum and white gold? Platinum is naturally white and will never lose its brilliant lustre. Gold is naturally yellow. White gold is yellow gold that has been blended with various other metals to whiten it and is plated with rhodium, which over time wears off so standard re-plating is frequently required to maintain its whiteness. Platinum is also a lot more dense than gold so a platinum engagement ring weighs in at 40% more than the same design in 18ct. gold. Platinum’s tactile feel and reassuring weight can not be equalled by any other metal.

At Gleeson’s Handmade Jewellery you can view a wide range of gold, silver or platinum diamond engagement rings.
