What are my rights regarding my merchandise with pawn shops if my merchandise was missing?

June 20th, 2011

I had pawned my wedding set in September 2006 and had been faithfully making payments every month. I went to get my stuff out of the pawn shop in April 2008, only to find that my rings were missing. They told me they had some problems with some employees that were working there tampering with some of the items. They tried to find something to replace my rings, but could not find anything. I had a 2 ct. platinum diamond marquis ring and two 1/2 ct. (each) platinum diamond wedding bands. He spoke with my husband and told him to make him an offer of something FAIR. My husband told him that he would discuss it with me first. How do you determine what is fair? By what you paid for it, or to replace it? If you go to the mall, you will find that many jewelry stores do not carry platinum, and the price has gone up. What do I do? Plus I have been paying every month with the assumption that my stuff was safe. I was paying for something that wasn’t even there. Please help.

Will pawn shops buy engraved wedding bands?

December 30th, 2010

I found a platinum and gold wedding band some years back and thought I would try to sell it. The only problem is that I have been trying to check online if pawnshops will buy an “engraved” ring and can find no information. Obviously the ring isn’t mine and the engraving just says the names of two people and a date. Will the pawn shop still buy it even though the ring is clearly not mine?

Do women always pawn their old engagement and wedding rings?

Is it wrong to keep them even if you get divorced and marry again?

Is there anything I can do to retrieve items (my wedding rings) from the pawn shop after the final date?

August 27th, 2010

I went to the pawn shop 8 days after the final date notice. Most pawn shops have a 10 day grace period. I was wrong, they said I lost my items. I don’t know what to do, I have to get th items back. It’s my parents wedding rings and my wedding rings. Can someone help me with laws you may know of?
