I have been married for almost a year. I had no engagement ring nor have not recieved a wedding ring. I have no idea how to approach him on the issue, are the rings even necessary?
When we were married it was very quickly and the J.P. took off his ring and gave it to us this is the last I have seen of a ring.

We are both college students.
He is from Nigeria.
I would like to know the significance of the ring.

For the ceremony? Can you just not have them when you get married and maybe get them later. Or are they required?
In case ya’ll are wondering we’re planning a small wedding at the court house. He has brain cancer and can’t work. I’m a babysitter. We’re both 21. We’re just worried that we may not be able to afford rings yet. We’ll get them when we can. We’re not skanks…just broke and in love

In American culture, some women can feel pressure to be married by a certain age, or just married period. It is known that the divorce rate in America is one of the highest, so I suspect that some women still feel the pressure to wear their wedding ring, even after a divorce.
This question is only for women who wear a wedding ring on their ring finger, who are NOT married, or if you know someone who is not married and wears one. I simply want to know the reason why.
If you are happily married; that’s great, but please focus on the question being asked.
I’m thinking specifically in the US – and white collar workers (I realize some blue collar workers don’t wear them for safety reasons.)
I always figured they just wore the engagement ring because that’s what my mom does – on her left ring finger. Is this typical? If women wear both, which fingers do they put them on? Thanks
