October 6th, 2011I had something custom made by a good friend’s husband. He messed it up; how should I handle this??
August 1st, 2011I asked my close friend’s husband who is a jeweler if he could make my fiance’s wedding rings (I’m getting him 2 that link together, symbolic of 2 people in a relationship:). I thought it would save money and be more personal.
I bought the rings I wanted in silver and sent them to him, asking for platinum.
He took about 3 months to make them, which didn’t bother me; I just wanted to have them in plenty of time for christmas. But I got them today, and they can’t be platinum, right? They were $600 for starts, and secondly, they look yellowish.
I am SO embarassed that he spent all this time making them (I mean they really are VERY simple plain rings, though!), and they don’t look anything like I envisioned.
What do I do? Do I call him? He doesn’t respond to email … should I talk to my friend, his wife, and ask her to ask him? What should I say???

Custom made engagement rings?
May 25th, 2011I know this might sound weird, but I dont think I want an engagement ring with a diamond. I’d love to have a platinum band, with and engraving on the top. Do you think its possible? Id also like my wedding band to fit in with it with small diamonds around the side. OR possibly switch the two. What do you all think? ALSO anyone know where I can find a website to have these made?

Pricing for custom made wedding ring?
April 2nd, 2011I’m wondering how much it will cost me to have a ring custom made. Here’s the deal. I have 2 rings from my mother, 1 ring from my grandmother, and 1 ring from her mother. All of them combined, there is like 20 diamonds. In addition, I am going to purchase 1 diamond (princess cut) to put in the center of the ring. I haven’t gone to any jewelers yet because I want to know what to expect before I go.
Basically, I need to know a round about figure that a ring would cost to have made that will include all of these diamonds. I really only need to purchase 1 diamond and the band. Probably will also need to pay to have it done. So, what would the cost be? Oh and the band is either going to be platinum or white gold. Your help is much appreciated.

April 1st, 2011I have a giant chunk of white gold my father gave to me. Before he died he told me he wanted it made into wedding bands. Well i just got engaged and that time has come to fulfill his wish. Where do I go to get this done? About how much does it cost? Can I use my own diamonds as well? I live in Iowa if that matters.
Is a wedding band with a thinner back side poorly made?
February 5th, 2011I found a custom wedding band at a jewelers and haven’t seen anything similar – it’s platinum, 2mm along the front (with diamond fragments inlay – under 1/4 karat), and thinner along the back. I’m concerned about the durability of a ring that’s under 2 mm. I read somewhere that rings that are thinner along the back can be poorly made (since it’s a way to use less metal).
When I described the style to another jeweler he said it was an old-fashioned look, but I find the look of the contemporary wedding bands to be very plain.
what is the common metal that wedding rings are traditionally made of?

yeah he likes actual silver. white gold would be fine, if it were obvious it was not just plain silver, like something with a diamond. I don’t want it to look like we just put our junk jewelry on the wrong finger
