Is 14kt white gold good?

December 2nd, 2011

My fiance and I got engaged a couple months ago and when we went ring shopping we fell in love with a wedding set and its 14kt. My diamond is 3/4 carrot. I love my ring, even if it was from a 25 cent machine, but am just curious if the gild will last, and what the difference in kt’s are??

Sorry, I’m sorta a nerd with jewelry!
Snickerdoodle: if you are talking about the question I answered of yours, saying not to worry about the bills, and I encourage you to put your money together, how am I a “C-U-N-T” lol please grow up my dear!
That is some pretty harsh language sweetie. The point is, you asked for advice and that is what you got. If you just wanted people to agree with you and feel sorry for you, you should have said so. I do not come on here to start drama, but to help people with their wedding/engagement plans. Please grow up, and next time put your question on single/dating, since you clearly aren’t engaged.

Is it ok to wear gold and silver rings together?

December 1st, 2011

I prefer silver or white gold jewelry. However, I have a yellow gold and ruby ring that was my grandmother’s that I wear in remembrance of her. It’s just a little piece of her that I like to keep close. I feel like if I wear any other rings on that hand, they should be gold but I don’t really like gold. What are my options? My wedding set is silver and I wear on my left hand (obviously lol) and I wear my grandmother’s ring on my middle finger on my right hand. Everything else (necklaces, bracelets, ect) is silver or white gold… is it ok? Or does it look tacky?

Coating a cheap metal with gold?

October 29th, 2011

My fiance made me a ring for my birthday out of a quarter. He did an amazing job and put a lot of time and effort into it. I was so pleased by the surprise and I thought it was extremely sweet!! The only problem is that I am allergic to nickel so every time I wear the ring I break out. We are getting married in less than 2 months and I thought it would be so awesome if we could have the ring coated with white gold and he could give it to me as my wedding band. It would be so sentimental and sweet!!! So is this possible? Is there anywhere that would coat a nickel/copper ring with white gold? Do you have any suggestions of where to get this done???

Thanks!

Okay so I Love White Gold but….?

October 10th, 2011

2 years ago my fiance went and bought a ring that was Yellow Gold that he thought I would love and I really do love it. However, the wedding band that we bought for him is made of tungsten carbide and better for him because it’s not as soft as gold. I love him ring and when showed it to his mother the first thing she asked was if my ring was going to match. This had crossed my mind several times but I could never bear to part with ring he bought for me and want my band to match. My question is whether or not it’s wrong that our bands won’t match?

10k vs. 18kt Gold…?

October 5th, 2011

My engagement ring is 18k white gold. I have found a wedding band online that I love, but we haven’t had a chance to go look at it yet. The band, however, only comes in 10k white gold. Will the gold look different up against my engagement ring? Is the luster, color, etc. different between the two grades? I don’t want to waste my time looking if the gold is not going to match. Thanks!!!!!!!!

Men’s wedding band metals; tungsten, palladium, gold, or titanium?

September 15th, 2011

i started looking for a wedding band, i like the dark shiny look of the titanium rings a lot but i guess they cant be resized if your ring size changes during your life, which it almost always does. i wasnt a silver looking band and was thinking about an alternative metal rather than white gold because it kinda looks like crap and loses its silver color after a few years. someone told me palladium dents and scratches easily so i was thinking maybe tungesten, does anyone know if that can be resized? if anyone knows of a good, objective buying guide for metals it would be appreciated. most of the guides ive found either sound unobjective or dont include tungsten and titanium
no, there is a metal called palladium. im not getting platium because like the first person said its horribly expensive and its soft so it dents easily and cheaper stuff looks just as good

is it possible to develop an allergic reaction to gold, when you have never had a problem before?

September 10th, 2011

i have been wearing my wedding band for 2 years now, and never had a problem, now i get these itchy bumps around my finger and it swells up. could i possibly be developing an allergic reaction now? also, i wear my engagement ring on my other hand and that finger is just fine, the engagement band and the wedding band are both 14 karat white gold. why would that band be ok and not the other?

can yellow and white gold be worn together?

September 4th, 2011

My wedding band is yellow gold, but there aren’t really many choices for jewelry in yellow gold. It seems like there is more variety in white gold. I was wondering if it would look terrible and tacky if I combined white gold with yellow gold. I know there is some jewelry out there with both yellow and white, but what if I wanted to wear a silver colored bracelet? Or found another ring to wear on my other hand? What about a necklace? I don’t know. My husband says it looks ok, but I feel slightly self conscious about it. Please give me your opinions.

How much is 14k gold worth? Anyone have a general idea? Ever sell gold?

August 20th, 2011

I have a small wedding band made of half white gold and half gold gold(these are 14k). I also have a bigger 1970′s pimp ring which looks like gaudy swiss cheese(which is also 14k). I know you can’t give me an exact figure, but I’d like to have a basic idea before i sell it so i don’t get ripped off. If it isn’t worth anything, let me know. Thanks so much!
