My sister’s engagement (and wedding) ring was bought from a street vendor in Dubai. Her (new) husband told her that it was 18karat white gold and that the diamonds were all top quality. I don’t know if he has a certificate of authenticity or anything and I’ve wondered if it was actually as good as he says it is. My brother recently pointed out to me that there is an inscription in my ring that tells me it is 14k but there is none in my sister’s ring. He says that the inscription instead is something like “fda” which he believes to be the symbol for silver. does anyone know anything about that?

I am getting blisters from my wedding band after wearing it for 20 years…what could be the problem?
July 10th, 2011I don’t know why, but I am now having a problem with my wedding band. I am getting these clear blisters, that itch like mad, on my finger all around and underneath my ring. I have not had this problem before and have worn this ring for the last 20 years. I have cleaned it, with jewlry cleaner in a sonic cleaning machine…no luck. I have removed it, and waited until the blisters have completely cleared up and put the ring back on…and my finger blistered right back up again. I am seriously thinking I might have developed an alergy to gold for some odd reason. Though I have a yellow and white gold mixed ring on my opposite hand and am not having a problem with it.
I would really like to see if I can find a way to still wear this ring…..it is my wedding band.
how to tell gold from fake?
July 5th, 2011I found a ring at the playground (where lots of parents bring and play with their young children). The ring looks like an engagement ring or a wedding ring. It looks like gold and it was all bent up. Now it broke in two. The ring is a band of a gold color (or real gold) and has these little kind of rip like design of silver color spaces in 1 row all the way across. The ring is really light and when I look on the inside of the ring because it broke in two, it looks white or grey. This looks like the ring except the ring i have is bent and broke and it’s opposite ( my ring is a gold color on the inside and in the dent like design it is a silver like color and that is not my ring, this one may be real but mine may be fake) http://images.search.yahoo.com/images/view?back=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.com%2Fsearch%2Fimages%3Fp%3Dgold%2Bwedding%2Bring%26b%3D81%26ni%3D20%26ei%3DUTF-8%26pstart%3D1%26fr%3Dyfp-t-501%26fr2%3Dtab-web&w=405&h=500&imgurl=static.flickr.com%2F3053%2F2819607329_e9a8189d30.jpg&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.flickr.com%2Fphotos%2Fcimoglu%2F2819607329%2F&size=94k&name=14K+Wedding+Ring&p=gold+wedding+ring&oid=8ac9a67dd2c3c660&fr2=tab-web&fusr=Cimoglu&lic=3&no=97&tt=202544&b=81&ni=20&sigr=11gu8knsn&sigi=11gvavg4o&sigb=13mosdu8v

Any sites to buy small sized rings from?
June 20th, 2011I’m trying to find some sites that sell small ring sizes. I’m getting married this summer and need to find a ring. Looked at one at a store I liked but it couldn’t be made to the size I need. I’m needing a size 3.5 in a ladies ring. I’m mainly looking for a site that has white gold wedding bands other than just the plain ones.

I have a 10k white gold band from my grandma, I would love to use it for my wedding band, but?
May 25th, 2011it’s not a plain band and thats what I wanted it has vertical lines all on the top front of the ring (the lines kinda look like the lines you see on coins but these are these are the length of the ring.
My question is do jewelers or can they melt down my ring and re shape it? or maybe just file down lines??? and how long is the process if it’s done on site?
My father did say it was ok and my grandma wouldnt ind the alterations..but she did make it a point to my dad for the first granddaughter to have this ring as theirs when they get married.
How to tell a real diamond from a synthetic one on an old wedding ring?
May 23rd, 2011My grandmother passed away in 2002 and I recieved a ring, which is a wedding ring. I’m not sure if it was my grandmother’s or her mother’s, but I am thinking about using it as my wedding ring for my own wedding in October of this year. I am trying to find out if it is real. It is 10k white gold and has a very small marking in an oval on the inside of the band. I have tried to scratch glass with it and it did scratch the glass, but I can’t tell if it scratched the gem because it is so shiny, I can’t really see the outside of it, just all the glimmer. I know cubic zirconia didn’t begin to get made until like 2001, and this is a very old ring. It has a large “diamond” in the middle and two smaller diamonds on the sides. If I look close at the large “diamond”, I can see a greyish tint. It isn’t gawdy, but it isn’t extremely small. I am trying to measure it and it appears to be 5 or 6 mm across (it’s round). I know my grandparents were married probably in the forties, possibly 1950, which I think (not sure, but I think) was before synthetic diamonds were made (?) Another thing: on the inside of the band, under where the diamonds are, there are small holes, directly under all the diamonds. What does that mean? Is that just how they used to set them, and does anyone know what time period that is from? I really love this ring and I will probably still use it as my wedding ring regardless, it would just be so cool if it were a real diamond. I keep trying to take a picture, but it’s just too shiny and looks like a white blur. Any suggestions?
