MY PREFERENCE IN RINGS IS SILVER/WHITE GOLD HER’S IS GOLD IS IT INAPPROPRIATE FOR THE BRIDE AND GROOM TO HAVE DIFFERENT STYLE WEDDING BANDS ?
I got engaged last night but instead of getting a diamond ring he gave me a white gold wedding band(which I love) . Has anyone else received a wedding band as an engagemnet ring?
Don’t get me wrong. I love it because I know what it symbolizes. I was just curious to see if anyone else has ever received a wedding band as an engagement ring.
To be honest I was wanting a diamond what girl doesn’t but I love him and want to marry him so that is all that matters. I told him to get me what he can afford. I am going to ask what are we going to do as far as wedding rings when we get married.
(I think i may have posted this in a wrong category before so i am re posting here in hopes for an answer,)
So my fiance has given me full reigns on choosing my engagement ring. which is great because i feel like a kind in a candy store but i don’t know how to buy diamond rings, what to look for etc… So please it would help if i got some outside opinions on the matter.
-Older Diamond engagement ring with 2 surrounding diamonds nicely set in 18K white gold-
-The shank is 14K yellow gold-
-The ring is over 60 Years old. Size 4 1/2
-I was told that it was a bluebird diamond
-By gauge it is .25 of a carat and most likely a VS + stone-
-Owner believes that Birks sold these under Bluebird in the 50`s (HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THAT MEANS)
- offering the 10K plain wedding band that is a size 6 3/4 only $50.00 extra
-..Both rings are hallmarked inside
Total Sale Price for SET: $300.00 (CAN)
A second question emerges: what can i expect price wise roughly for resizing UP for the engagement ring from a 4 1/2 to a 6? and the band from a 6 3/4 DOWN to a 6?

My engagement ring was custom made, but with the price of platinum up right now, we decided to buy one already made instead of getting band custom made, too.
What do you think?

Thanks for answers so far. The edgework is a little different around diamonds and on the side of band. Probably noone will notice but me!
Lydia-I actually tried on one like that. It was less flush, believe it or not.
Im currently in Cape Town, South Africa. My budget is R 5000. I preferrebly want to buy a wedding set, but I will settle for just an engagement ring for that price, I can always much later before the wedding buy the wedding band. Now what is the best option: White Gold or Platinum? (I hate normal gold) Then I want little diamonds plus a saphire in it, this is a must, it doesnt really matter which one is on the side and which is in the middle. Now Ive been window shopping around and I cant get want Im looking for. My only other option is to get it made. But way to expensive. Can someone tell me of a jeweller thats not too expensive in Cape Town area? Or give me any other advice, please its quite urgent.

My fiance and I are having trouble finding a wedding band that looks right next to it. We have the benefit of knowing a jeweler that can make whatever we what for a decent price, so we would like something a little more dazzling than a simple white gold band. But we’ve been told that the pear-shaped stones make it very difficult to match with a wedding band right next to it.
It was also suggested that I wear my engagement band on my right hand and a completed different wedding band on the otherhand. I’m not against this idea, but I’d like to try to find something to wear on my left hand with my engagement ring.
Any suggestions?
