My fiance and I are going to get our wedding bands custom made. We have the diamonds already, so we will need to pay for the white gold (14k), and getting the diamonds channel set with emeralds (which we need to buy) in between. August 9th, 2011I am planning on proposing to my girlfriend… and i was wondering on how much a ring would cost for her… i guess that i would mostly want a price range…. or something along those lines…. or you could just tell me how much you paid for one before, or how much one cost that you recieved.

Wedding Ring Alteration Cost?
May 6th, 2011Instead of purchasing a wedding band for my fiance we are going to be using her great-grandmothers wedding band. We are going to need to get a few alterations to it though…
When the wedding band was originally made it was about 1/4 inch wide and was a continuous repeat of little hearts with small diamonds in between. When my fiance’s grandmother received the ring she had it altered a good bit. She had the ring cut in half, had the two half’s tacked together, and then had that half circle connected to a half circle of 18k white gold. So now its about a 1/2 inch wide with two rows of hearts on the top and just white gold on bottom. (I hope that all made sense).
My fiance wants to have it put back to the original design. So basically, they would be cutting the ring’s width and height in half. and then reconnecting the top two pieces. We called a few jewelers in the area and they told us they couldn’t do it. One person gave us the name of someone about 2 hours away. I called them and they wouldn’t even give me a ball park price on how much it will probably cost to do this.
Would anyone know a ball park guess on how much something like this would cost? I couldn’t even guess if we would be looking at $100 or $5000 for this kind of work. Thank you so much!!!!

April 12th, 2011I’m sorry if this is a sensitive subject. My fiance and I have never bought jewelry before (other than the engagement ring). We want to get 2-tone rings with no diamonds. We have no idea what an average ring costs. We are just beginning to search and don’t really know anything about rings.
Thank you for all of your answers so far. My fiance had the engagement ring custom made using an online company. It turned out great (just too big), but we don’t want to purchase our wedding rings on line. We want to be able to see them in person first.
I think we live in a more expensive area, which is part of the reason I was curious about the average cost of rings. If the rings we’ve been looking at are a lot more than what seems to be the average, it might be worth it to us to look elsewhere.

April 8th, 2011How much did you spend on engagement ring and wedding bands? I looked up other questions, and people seemed to spend thousands on them with HUGE carats.
We “only” spent $350 on my 0.4 ct princess cut on 18k white gold engagement ring, $295 on my 0.1 ct channel-set 14k white gold wedding band, and $84 on a plain white gold groom wedding band. LOL we’re not married yet, but we bought the wedding bands while there was a big sale. Added together they’re “just” $729, 0.5 carat.
I love the rings, but I’m just wondering if putting 2-3 months salary into an engagement ring really that normal? We don’t want to spend much because I’m not planning to sell them again (so it’s a bad investment) and we’re putting 90% of my salary towards apartment, utilities, food, insurance, credit card, and college tuition installment. I’m pretty sure the same goes for my fiance.
I put “only” and “just” in sarcastic manner because I do think they’re lots of money just for accessories.
Don’t take my question negatively. I do love my rings. I just want to know if it’s something normal or even customary in the US to spend 2-3 months salary. I have little experience in US marriage customs. In my country, the engagement gift is not a ring but several gift baskets of whatever the groom’s family like to give (from fruits to jewelry). But I am marrying an American.
And I know the cost of the rings because we bought everything together. He hates shopping and guessing what I like. So I always chose my gifts for birthday, Christmas, and now wedding 
to make his life easier. When I want to go shopping, usually he’d just sit in a coffee shop or food court to wait lol.
