What do you think when it comes to buying a wedding ring?

April 10th, 2010

My boyfriend thinks that it’s stupid to have to buy two rings. He thinks there should just be one for both engagement and the actual marriage. I told him that if there is just an engagement ring then it will look like you are always engaged and what would you have to put on during the wedding. If you buy just a wedding band then you wouldn’t have an engagement ring. Engagement rings are a big thing in my opinion. It doesn’t have to be huge and ornate. Its a symbol of a man’s dedication to a woman and the woman can look at it and be proud and say to the world “He loves me, and I love him, look at what we’re gonna do”. I want a very simple engagement ring and a plain wedding band. It’s not like I’m asking for a ring with a bunch of diamonds on it or a platinum wedding band. I think less is better when it comes to jewelry. Is it really so wrong of me to want both rings? Ladies and gentlemen, what do you think? Is it useless to get two rings, no rings?

Tips For Buying a Wedding Ring

December 12th, 2009

Few men are experts on buying wedding rings. For most men, it’s a process of becoming educated quickly and then searching desperately for the right ring. The amount of money they’re expected to pay for the ring seems fluid, changing each year to accommodate retailers. At the same time, there’s a lot of conflicting advice. In an effort to help smooth the process, making it easier and less stressful, we’ll provide you with 7 quick tips for buying the perfect wedding ring.

Tip #1: Know Your Metals

In the past, most wedding rings were gold and had a golden tone to them. Yellow gold rings are still popular today, but there are other options available. White gold is becoming more prevalent because it allows the stone to stand out. On the other hand, platinum has become increasingly fashionable. It’s more expensive than yellow or white gold, but it’s also more durable.

Tip #2: Know Your Purity

If you plan to buy a wedding ring made from yellow or white gold, you’ll need to understand the purity of the metal. In most cases, gold rings come in 14k, 18k, and 24k. The greater the number of karats, the higher the purity of the gold. 24k gold is more expensive than 14k or 18k. It’s also softer and more prone to becoming scratched.

Tip #3: Know Your 4 C’s

Most wedding rings will have at least one diamond. The quality of the diamond is determined by what are known as the 4 C’s: cut, color, clarity, and caret of the stone. The stone’s cut is what allows the diamond to reflect light. The less color a diamond has, the more valuable it is. Clarity is a reflection of the diamond’s inclusions (or, flaws). And the number of carats is a measurement of the stone’s size.

Tip #4: Take Her With You

The wedding ring that you purchase for your partner will ideally last a lifetime. Many women have specific preferences for the style and design of the ring. Consider taking your partner with you. It may seem less romantic to do so, but it can help you avoid investing in a ring she doesn’t like.

Tip #5: Negotiate

Retailers’ prices for wedding rings usually include substantial markups. That means there is room to negotiate the price. The key is to be upfront and honest with the retailer. If you see the “perfect” wedding ring and can’t afford to buy it at the listed price, let the dealer know. Tell him how much you can afford to spend. Often, they’re willing to lower the price or offer attractive payment options to move the inventory.

Tip #6: Stone First

It’s likely that the wedding ring will become an heirloom, kept in your family for generations. If you’re struggling to afford an attractive ring, invest more in the diamond and less in the ring itself. The diamond often carries greater emotional significance over time.

Tip #7: Size It Properly

Even though having a ring resized is relatively simple, try to have it sized properly by the time you offer it to your partner when you propose. If possible, borrow one of her other rings and present it to the jeweler for sizing. A poorly-sized wedding ring won’t ruin your proposal, but a perfectly-sized ring will help make it flawless.

Investing In The Ring

A common rule of thumb for pricing wedding rings is to allocate two months’ salary. However, that’s an arbitrary figure. Instead, focus primarily on finding a ring that will match your partner’s style and preferences. While your budget will play a major role in the ring you purchase, other factors are more important. Use the 7 tips described above when shopping. If you do, you’ll be better prepared to identify the right ring, confident that your partner will be delighted with it.

How exactly does buying wedding rings work?

December 7th, 2009

My fiance and I are getting married in 2 years but are starting to plan now. I was wondering how exactly the wedding rings get purchased. Do we go out together and pick a set and buy them, or do we pick out each others and buy them separatly? Do they sell two-piece sets? I’ve seen a lot of three piece sets that include the engagement ring, but I’ve already got that. Any advice? Thanks

Some instructions of buying of a wedding ring

Budget is a very crucial factor of purchasing a wedding ring. While buying one you have to keep this fact in your mind that spending all money on a wedding ring can be considered as unreasonable and fanatic decision.

So fix your budget before buying your ring. If you know the limits of your budget, you can save plenty of time choosing from a collection of rings within that price range.

The second one is material of the wedding ring. Wedding rings are made of a variety of material. Determine the type of wedding ring you would like to purchase within your established budget. The most traditional wedding rings are made of gold. You can purchase a ring of yellow, pink, white, or green gold. Different qualities of gold are also available.

Another metal is platinum which is hot favorite material among young couples is. Platinum is the finest, rarest, and purest of all precious metals. In addition, it is strong, heavy, and resistant. Platinum wedding rings are good for daily wear because they are hypoallergenic, resist tarnish, and don’t wear off easily. However, platinum is costlier than gold.

All these types of rings are or can be studied with diamonds and precious stones. But the Diamond wedding rings are vastly popular because diamonds are the loveliest, hardest, and most expensive gems ever known to humankind. Their dazzling purity, beauty, and durability are symbolic of eternal love. The amount you will have to spend on a diamond, however, depends on its cut, color, clarity, and weight. You can also purchase rings of titanium, nickel, silver, tungsten carbide with precious stones such as ruby, emerald, sapphire, and topaz set in them. Though diamond is the hardest matter still diamond rings need to be taken good care of. Not only because it is precious but also because they may not get damaged any way or the cut of the diamond does not get harmed. The cut of a diamond is the most essential thing therefore it should be taken good care so that it never get damaged or else the shine may get dull. And also it should be kept in mind not to keep your diamond wedding ring with other jewelry or else, hitting each other and chipping may spoil the edges of the stone. The brilliance of the diamond is in its shine but dust, oil from your skin and other tainted substances can lessen the stone?s glow. Keep your ring clean by using soap water every now and again and let it dry in air and polish it with a soft fabric. If the diamond has accumulated dust, then brush the diamond with a worn, soft-bristle toothbrush from time to time, to remove dirt from between the crevices and keep its sparkle unaffected. If any way the stains get more resistant then have a weak solution of ammonia (one-fifth) and water (four-fifth) and brush the diamond applying a soft brush.

Select the appropriate style and design. Wedding rings are available in a number of designs such as Celtic or Irish, vintage and antique rings, designer rings, custom, traditional, beaded edges, and engraved rings.
