So I know we’ve all heard that it’s bad luck to ever take off your wedding ring and all that jazz, but superstitions aside, what do you think about married people who either don’t wear a ring ever, or take it off occasionally?

For example: I am a married woman, and my ring is a three stone engagement ring soddered inside an enhancer/jacket. The result is that the ring fits more snugly than if it was kept as two separate pieces. My hands, like mose people’s, swell slightly in the summer, and/or if I am bloated for whatever reason. As a result, I have been taking my ring off for short periods of time, because the feeling woyld range from discomfort to nearly cutting off my circulation. I try to put it back on if I am leaving the house, but sometimes my hands are so swollen I can’t get it over my knuckle. I also sometimes take it off if I am cleaning, putting on lotion, or doing something else that might gunk up the ring, because I have a slight case of OCD.

Example two: my husband is a mechanic and takes his ring off at work sometimes. He was married previously and his ex-wife never let him take his ring off. He was working in construction and dropped something heavy on his hand. His ring was crushed into his hand (it was a flimsy white gold band — from Walmart) and it was extremely painful for hkm to get it off, but he had to so it didn’t cut off his circulation and so he could get his finger treated. As a result of this, we were very particular when picking out his wedding band, and got a wider band made out of tungsten, but some jobs, he will still remove his ring so it doesn’t get damaged or hurt him.

Neither of us have a problem with the other removing their ring. We feel that the circumstances are understandable, and that the ring might be a symbol of our marriage, but the marriage itself is the love and commitment between us. Does anyone else feel this way? I mean, it’s not as though we only remove our rings when we go out to bars or clubs, or because we are ashamed of being married. My parents both take their rings off at night or when working with their hands and have been happily married for thirty years this Oct., so I definitely don’t believe any superstitions! What do you think when you hear of people removing their rings?

BQ: When ‘checking out’ a member of the opposite sex, do you take the time to look for a ring on his/her finger?
Oops, I meant to mention this above:

I’m not, like, stressing about this or anything, I was just mildly curious about what the general opinion is ;-D
Oi, so many edits, lol!

In reference to the third post: I know I don’t check out someone’s finger to see if they’re married. If an attractive man passes by, I might notice that he is attractive, but that’s about it. My husband is free to look at whatever woman he pleases (LOOK, not touch, haha), but he is that guy who is more likely to check out a pretty girl’s cool car than the pretty girl herself. This marriage was a long time coming (eight years of ‘carrying the torch’, so to speak), so there’s no way we’re letting anyone come between us.

I guess I just asked to see if a ring is something people notice. I am more likely to notice a woman wearing a ring than a man, because, well, I am a woman and interested in unique jewelry!

Well this is the one he gave me yesterday: http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k65/LedZepBabe/MyRing.jpg
I really love it but my friends and even my parents are saying “that’s not an “engagement” ring” and that it should have more diamonds and that he should have gotten me a wedding set instead of this one ring. I don’t care if he doesn’t get me another ring for when we actually get married, this one would be fine as my wedding ring but he might want to get me another one for the big day. If he does, what do I do with my engagement ring? I can’t leave it on my left finger if there’s gonna be another ring. Switch it over to my right hand? What should I say to everyone and their unnecessary comments?

The band is white gold, and the crown was custom made to hold the stone (because of it’s unusual shape). We are getting married in September and need to get our wedding bands soon. I can’t find anything that I feel matches it very well. I like the look of “ring wraps” that I have seen, but all the ones I’ve seen are designed for round settings. We don’t have enough room left in our budget to have our wedding bands made… does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Just for fun and someone else’s input (I already know about dream moods). I know people like to interpret dreams…

The first dream is like this:

I wake up and find out that I am marrying some man who I don’t know in real life but in my dream I had somewhat of a previous relationship with him. He was tall and wore a gery suit, but I didn’t he did not have a discernible face. I didn’t think I had a wedding dress but there was one for me to wear. It was a plain white A-Line dress with a drop neck and spaghetti straps. It wasn’t something I would pick out, but I liked it. I wanted to get my hair done, my nails done and put make up on but the woman who was to be my maid of honor (also not a person I know in real life and I don’t think I was all that familiar with her in my dream) wouldn’t let me. It was as if her only job was to get me to the wedding. The wedding was in our mall in a small store. There were just a handful of guests there. It started and I promptly stopped it because I realize we did not have rings. I ran out of the store and looked at several stores in the mall that usually would have rings, but there were no wedding or engagement rings and I wanted to get both. I was looking for them to be in platinum. I also wanted my groom to pay for them since he had not thought to even propose to me, but he did not come with me when I left. I knew I would have to find a ring and go get him before buying it. After looking at 4 stores which were unnamed in my dream, I keow I only had one more store that could possibly work and that was JC Penney. I went to the jewelry counter, no one was there except a different couple looking for engagement rings, At this point my groom was with me. There was one engagement ring to be had. It needed to be found and I needed to find it before the other couple. Both the other couple and myself looked around the counter for the rings. I found them, an engagement ring and two wedding rings and left without paying (the store appeared to be abandoned anyway).

The second dream:

I woke up and told I was getting married. There didn’t seem to be a groom involved, but I knew I was meeting someone at the altar. I didn’t think I had a dress but there was one set out for me. It had a lot of details, pleats, gathers, beadwork, etc. I didn’t think I would like it, but did once it was on. I wanted to get myself done up but someone was pushing me along to get me to my wedding on time. It was important to me that I wear make up (I don’t wear make up in real life) so I put concealer on first. I focused on putting it on around my eyes and doing so started to think of how I could highlight my eyes with the make up I had. Then I put foundation on then contemplated wearing eye make up. found two different shapes of blue in a “pen” style eye shadow. I put the lighter blue on my entire eyelid for one eye and planned on putting the darker blue on only part of the lid. I got the one eye done and put mascara on the realized I needed to put eye shadow on the other eye. I tried to do it with the mascara on but the mascara ended up getting on my lid an I had to was my entire face and start over.

That’s the end of both dreams.

Valentine

Not a red rose or a satin heart

I give you an onion
It is a moon wraped in brown paper
It promises light
like the careful undressing of love

Here.
It will blind you with tears
like a lover.
It will make your reflection
a wobbling photo of grief.

I am trying to be truthful.

Not a cute card or a kissogram.

I give you an onion.
Its fierce kiss will stay on your lips,
possessive and faithful
as we are,
for as long as we are.

Take it.
It’s platinum loops shrink to a wedding-ring
if you like.
Lethal.
Its scent will cling to your fingers,
cling to your knife.

That is an exmaple to what I have to write. The topic is a gift symbolizing/representing my love .. And I have NO CLUE what gift to use .. If you guys can help me out with this and get a few lines for me(Or if you like a whole 14 line poem ) Or even a gift ..(Not a teddybear or a box of chocolates.. Not the usual stuff)

Thank you!

That poem is NOT MY poem. That is an example. I still have yet to write mine but I need ideas on how to write. What gift to use and how to get it started .. I have no clue how to make poems. Please help me out!

then what?

I am engaged to my fiance, another female. We had discussed rings before and she made it clear she wanted a platinum band with diamonds all the way around. That’s what I got, and she loved it. I have since gotten a beautiful one karat princess cut/platinum band.

Now we are looking at bands and I want a platinum band with diamonds, but she feels like that would make hers look “less special.”

What can we get for her that would enhance her already beautiful ring? She doesn’t want just a plain band? What’s left, when she is already wearing a band?

Thanks in advance everyone!!
My fiance is not at all about the look of her ring. She isn’t like that. But truth be told it’s a once in a lifetime thing and yes, I do want her to have a beautiful, sparkling set like mine. I don’t think that’s abnormal or shallow.

[[engagement ring +wedding band +his wedding band]]

he gave me the engagment ring when he proposed in march
& we got married in August

so the rings are in white gold
& i noticed that my engagement ring is turning yellow

so my hubby bought the warranty for the rings & every 6 months the jewelry company is suppose to inspect & clean them

he bought them with Don Robert’s Jewelrs.

& when i took the rings & told them that my ring is turning yellow the employee tells me its because it was originally yellow gold & with everyday use it turns back into its original color

& of course this pisses me off
because the rings were $2,500 [[my hubby got 30% discount]]
so the rings would have been more expensive

& they never told my husband that the rings would turn back yellow
& never explained that the warranty did not cover the cost to turn them back into white gold
they told me to turn them back into white gold i had to pay $40
& im thinking $40 twice a year is going to add up & its money we should not be charged because we bought the warranty

& im thinking of just telling them to take the warranty cost off because what’s the point of getting them cleaned if the ring is going to be partially yellow gold?
i rather just pay another jewelry company to get them inspected for me every 6 months

if don robert’s won’t take the warranty cost off can i sue them?
they are a big company especially in Ca
& they didn’t bother telling my husband that those rings would change color over time & that the warranty would not cover that
i have other white gold jewelry boughten with them & the jewelry didn’t turn colors & its been over a yr that i’ve had them
i just have the engagement ring for 6 months & it turns yellow
which im thinking they are trying to rip me off

any suggestions?

I originally wanted a wedding band that my engagement ring would kind of shape with. But I always envisioned my wedding band being thicker more like a traditional wedding band thickness and width. My engagement ring band is very thin though and the matching wedding band (we have not purchased our wedding bands yet) is also very thin. So now, I’m looking more at white gold traditional style bands which would actually match his. When I told him about this idea last night, he disagreed and said he thinks it would look much nicer if I get the matching band to my engagement ring. Should I just stick with the original plan and get the skinny matching platinum band to go with the engagement ring or should I go with my new idea to get a matching band to my fiance’s? My new idea band would feel much nicer on my finger than the platinum band and more affordable too. Not that cost really matters in this case, but still…
