What should I do about my wedding rings?

September 3rd, 2010

I am going to get married next September and are planning to have a somewhat traditional Mexican wedding with some minor differences. My fiancee and I plan to buy our wedding rings and have the “padrinos de anillos” present the rings at the alter. We were planning on asking his brother and sister-in-law. My godmother called my mom saying they way want to give me the wedding rings. I want to say no but my parents insist that it wouldn’t be right to say no because their feelings would be hurt. There’s another catch to the story, back in the 80’s my godfather “mishandled” some of my dad’s money. We think he stole it but since no one wants to bring it up its always been an issue. I don’t know if they really want to give me the rings because I am their goddaughter or because they want to “pay back” some of that money in a sense. I really don’t know what to do. I just want to be able to pick my own rings. I wouldn’t want to look at them knowing there’s that story behind it…
Another thing is that my godparents live in Mexico and I live in California….they would be the ones that are going to decide what they look like.

Allergic to my white gold wedding band. What can I do about this?

April 6th, 2010

I think I may have developed an allergic reaction to my 10k white gold wedding band (well I guess to be more accurate the nickle that it possibly contains.) Even if I wear it for a short amount of time my finger swells up and breaks out in this odd bump covered rash. Is there anything I can do to the ring that can make it wearable without this happening?

Information about platinum rings?

January 16th, 2010

I’m interested in getting a platinum wedding band when I get married, but I don’t know much about them. Is there any reason to go to a jeweler, or does that just cost more? There are some online places with cheaper rings, but are they trustworthy (would it really be platinum or something else)? Thanks!

How about a Wedding ring as a gift item

January 1st, 2010

Wedding ring as a gift item is as unique and unexpected as bolt from blue. Naturally close friends and relatives give this as gift on this special occasion. Wedding ring as a gift item is quite surprising. Nothing gives the joy and enjoyments equal to that feeling when you open the gifted jewelry box and find a beautiful wedding ring for your most special occasion. Wedding ring, as a gift material is unique and a clever choice. Though every couple selects their own wedding jewelry but why not give them a good pleasant surprise by gifting a wedding ring.

The idea of gifting a ring is good but it requires lots of things to care for. Your choice should match the choice of the bride and groom. You should know the least details of a ring, such as, which would be the metal of the ring, the color of stone, the right weight of the ring and etc. it is your extra responsibility that everyone talks about your gift and praise your choice. The spark and enjoyment you can see in the bride and grooms eyes is equally bright like the gold of the ring. Your feeling after gifting them a wedding ring is also as gratifying as the wedding couples. No one can imagine a gift like wedding ring. So do not let go this idea and gift your favorite couple, your near and dear ones a wedding ring. It can support your purse and also an intelligent choice.

Now there are various kinds of companies with their excellent range of collection. It has made this hard job easy for you. Several brands with their several launching will puzzle you and you cannot make your choice, as this will be too hard to finalize one among so many ravishing designs. The bottom line is that ring should be beautiful, as no couple want to make any compromise with their wedding ring. So, even if you are giving it as a gift but keep in mind.

With Safire, emerald, ruby and diamond embellishments gold or platinum ring go well. These stones enhance the beauty of the ring. The more the stones the more beautiful they are. Their cutting and embellishments are most important. A good ring must have a classic look but at the same time a modern touch too. Blending of these two criteria makes the ring precious. Someone prefers gold to platinum and someone prefers platinum, as it is new and trendy. Modern designs focus on the intricacies of the wedding ring and on the other hand traditional rings are stressed on their settings of stones and quality of metals.

With this designing factor you must look at the quality of durability and above all the fittings of the ring in the finger. Take an idea prior and then choose the ring. Comfortableness is the foremost thing to consider as so tight or so loose then it will not suit. If he or she has any metal irritation then it would be problematic. So be sure about the very facts and then choose a gift.

About the cheapest wedding ring

December 31st, 2009

Wedding means the over spending of money. We are bound to spend unlimited amount of money in the wedding ceremony. There are some places where we cannot cut our budget even if we want to save money. But we can save money by purchasing the cheaper wedding ring than we want to purchase.

If we search for the best wedding ring, maximum people will suggest to buy the gold or diamond or the platinum rings. These metals are no doubt good. But at the same time they are very costly. There was a time when people could not think to buy any cheap metal like silver as the metal of wedding rings.

Today the younger generations are more intelligent because they not only think of the budget but also of the latest trend. Now the jewelry designers have designed some models of silver rings which can defeat any gold ring in look and finishing.

Then, we have some misconception regarding the diamond ring. We consider diamond to be precious and rare. But the fact is that diamond is not rare at all. There are a number of companies who sell diamonds. So it is not as precious and rare as it is thought to be.

Unlike the other soft metals, silver is more durable. It is not fragile at all. You can use it as you wish. As there is no fear of getting damaged you can wear it anytime and anywhere. It will be your partner even in your working hours. So it will be the wisest step for you if you choose the sparkling silver wedding ring.

Next to silver will be the titanium wedding ring. You may be unaware of the fact that titanium is used as the metal for rings because it is the latest fashion. It is a fact that titanium is used in making ships and aeroplanes. But when it is applied to ring it becomes something different. Titanium rings are now-a-days the largest selling rings.

First of all it is not so costly as platinum. Anyone can afford the price. Then, titanium is a very skin-friendly metal. It suits any kind of skins whether the skin is sensitive or not. The men and women, who have the problem of skin-allergy, will like it. It does not react in any kind of water. So you can wear it freely wherever you want to wear.

Then it is also a fact that titanium is a strong metal. Therefore it is natural that the rings made of it will be durable. You can do any hard work wearing this. As the wedding ring is the proof of your love towards your spouse you must wear it every moment. In this case silver and titanium are the best choice.

If you think that titanium rings are not fashionable, then you are absolutely wrong. There are many fancy designs of titanium rings. You have to visit a well-known store. They can show you the latest designs. You can also search the internet to get the best model.

Some facts about wedding rings

December 22nd, 2009

A wedding ring is a wedding couple’s most cherished possession.  It is the only symbol of the couple’s love and commitment and the vow they took to stay with each other as long as they live. It is the only artificial substance that holds the bonding between the couple all through their marital life. It is believed to connect the two hearts. A person never separates the ring from his or her body. During a wedding ritual, the bride and the bridegroom exchanges rings. It is like gifting a part of their heart to each other. The wedding ring is worn on the 4th finger of the left hand. The fourth finger is believed to have a vein which runs straight to the heart.

The exchange of bridal rings is not a very old ritual. It was introduced during the World War II. Before that the man used to offer his wife a ring, acceptance of which made the woman the man’s property. This ring ritual is however, a very old practice. It was introduced by the Egyptian civilization, thousands of years ago. With the advancement of time, the wedding ring has changed; previously wedding rings were made of leaf or hay. Then came the time of metals. People used to make rings from any metal. Because of the lack of proper equipments, the makers failed to give the ring proper shape or size. Nowadays, only two metals are used to make wedding rings, platinum and gold. Although both are very hard and strong metal, suitable equipments are used to cut them for making proper designs.

Present day jewelers have proved to be very successful in making eye-catching, spectacular wedding rings. Even though platinum is one of the hardest metal, jewelers use proper technique to cut it, give it proper shape and produce some spectacular designed rings. Platinum is used for making ring, because of its strength and its everlasting metallic white luster. Then comes gold, pure gold is not much of a hardy metal. Other metals are mixed with it to make it hard. Metals are also used to change the color of gold. Pure gold is yellow in color. Metals are often mixed to give it some artificial colors, like white gold or rose gold.

Wedding rings are quite plenty nowadays. A person can purchase rings from departmental stores or any online store. It is available in lots of variety. Variety in the sense, the design, cost, stones and metal used etc. It depends solely on the person, what ring he or she will choose for the partner. A person should buy keeping a lot of things in mind. The partner’s choice, quality of the ring, its cost etc. If a person is in a job, where he or she has to use the hands a lot, then a designer, stone-studded ring is not preferable. It will not be comfortable for that person.

Whatever wedding ring a person purchases, there are several things that should be kept in mind. Using an uncomfortable wedding ring throughout life time is not good.  Since, it is the single chance of a lifetime, enough importance should be given while purchasing a wedding ring.

Russian Women’s Attitudes About Wedding Rings

December 17th, 2009

There are also misunderstandings about monetary terms between Russians and Americans:

For example, you go into the jewelry store and your Russian fiancé picks out a ring. You tell her that it is expensive. You mean that it is overpriced, or that it is more than you can afford.

She thinks you mean that that you cannot afford to buy her a ring and that she is not going to get a wedding ring. Russians think in black and white, not shades of gray.

She starts to cry and you cannot understand why. After you calm her down, you laboriously explain to her what your budget is for a ring. She still thinks you are a miser, but you make the purchase.

This may be the end of it or it may not.

Some Russians Have Kitschy Taste. I know one acquaintance that has purchased a wedding ring for his wife five times because he keeps imposing a budget on his wife.

He went to Fast Eddie’s Discount Wedding Rings first. His fiancé buys the biggest, gaudiest ring she can find for the money, but she doesn’t like it because she keeps comparing it to my wife’s wedding ring.

His fiancé buys the biggest diamond even though it is of poor quality. My wife has excellent taste. I explained to my wife when buying a wedding ring about diamond quality. I told her about quality versus size.

She picked a beautifully designed ring and a stone that was good quality and a reasonable size for the money. It was a little more than I wanted to pay, but it made my wife happy.

Her friend has somewhat kitschy taste. Big and gaudy is better in her mind. Yet when she keeps comparing it to my wife’s ring, she is unhappy.

She keeps pressing her husband to trade up. Eventually, she will get the ring she always wanted. But it will end up costing more in the long run than if he had just bought the right ring in the first place.

Do not buy a wedding or engagement ring in Russia. The choice is much better in western countries. Russians don’t have a tradition of engagement rings so she isn’t expecting one.

Wedding rings in Russia are simple gold bands. They do not have diamond wedding rings as a rule.

Buy her a wedding ring when she gets to America. Let her help pick it out so she is happy with it. Work within your budget, but…

Don’t go cheap because she will see what other women are wearing as soon as she finds her way around.

The general feeling that Russians have about westerners is that they are cheap. This is because they are always talking about money. Don’t reinforce her pre-conceived notions by being cheap.

When Russians hear a foreigner complaining about expenses all the time, they think he is greedy.

John has been married to a Russian women for over five years. He has travelled the path from finding her, to traveling to Russia, to bring his wife to America, and adjusting to married life. He will show you step by step how to do this yourself.
