My fiance is allergic to most metals. He can wear silver without a problem; gold, copper, and pewter all give him a rash. Steel doesn’t appear to be any better; both surgical and stainless cause breakouts, as does aluminum. Thus, our problem is finding a wedding ring for him. He says he doesn’t want a fabric, plastic, or wood band. Would he be able to wear platinum?

Will a bent prong cause my ring to appear less brilliant?
October 16th, 2011The diamond in my wedding ring is a .91 carat VS1, colorless stone set in a six prong platinum setting.
One of the prongs has been slightly bent for several months now (I banged the headboard one night while sleeping!) and it seems like I can’t get my diamond to sparkle the way it used to.
I clean it on a regular basis by soaking it in hot water with a little bit of dish soap and then lightly scrubbing it with a soft toothbrush. It will still sparkle but it doesn’t seem quite as brilliant as it did before I bent the prong. Am I just imagining things?
I know I need to get it fixed and my ring is insured but the only people I trust with my diamond are the folks at USAA (and that requires paying for costly mailing insurance plus the cost of fixing it.)
Should I just clean it differently? Someone suggested windex the other day…

Platinum is out of the question. ( Bad experiences with plat.) It’s the small details that drive you drazy when deciding! Thanks!

How do I get the perfect engagement ring?
October 8th, 2011Im currently in Cape Town, South Africa. My budget is R 5000. I preferrebly want to buy a wedding set, but I will settle for just an engagement ring for that price, I can always much later before the wedding buy the wedding band. Now what is the best option: White Gold or Platinum? (I hate normal gold) Then I want little diamonds plus a saphire in it, this is a must, it doesnt really matter which one is on the side and which is in the middle. Now Ive been window shopping around and I cant get want Im looking for. My only other option is to get it made. But way to expensive. Can someone tell me of a jeweller thats not too expensive in Cape Town area? Or give me any other advice, please its quite urgent.
